Foraging For Comics: The DC May Solicits

There is, as can be expected, a shitload of Batman Begins merchandise. I'm ignoring it completely.

BATMAN: DARK DETECTIVE #1 & 2 Written by Steve Englehart Art and covers by Marshall Rogers & Terry Austin
One of the most popular Batman creative teams ever reunites for a twice-monthly- shipping 6-issue miniseries! Writer Steve Englehart and artists Marshall Rogers & Terry Austin set a high standard with their acclaimed run on DETECTIVE COMICS in the late 1970s! Now that team is back with BATMAN: DARK DETECTIVE, a miniseries that pits the Dark Knight against the most famous and feared members of his Rogues Gallery! In the startling debut issue, the Joker enters a gubernatorial election using the campain slogan "Vote for me or I'll kill you!" Will it persuade voters? Plus, Bruce Wayne's old love interest Silver St. Cloud returns, as do Two-Face and the Scarecrow! And the action continues in the startling second issue, as the Scarecrow manages to overcome Batman in the one location where he's most vulnerable: the Batcave! Meanwhile, the Bruce Wayne/Silver St. Cloud relationship heats up!

Good to see these guys getting work. Still the premise strikes me as unlikely,e ven for comics. Wouldn't Joker have to register to run for Governor, and wouldn't that give the cops an address to find him at?

ACTION COMICS #827 Written by Gail Simone Art by John Byrne & Nelson Cover by Byrne Legendary artist John Byrne returns to illustrate the adventures of the Man of Steel, joined by fan-favorite writer Gail Simone (BIRDS OF PREY) and inker Nelson (TEEN TITANS)! Expect high adventure, slam-bang action and insightful character moments as Superman faces both new and familiar threats. It all kicks off in this issue as Dr. Polaris seeks Superman's protection from a new mistress of magnetism: Repulse!

I am really, really, *really* tempted by this. Gail Simone is jawsome defined.

FALLEN ANGEL #20 Written by Peter David Art and cover by David Lopez & Fernando Blanco The conclusion of the "Sacred Cows" arc! The Fallen Angel goes toe-to-toe with Sachs and Violens for her life. Meanwhile, the power players of BĂȘte Noire are about to turn on each other, and very few will be left when the explosions stop and the smoke clears! Final issue.

Well, damn. Joe Rice, consider yourself released from your obligation to buy this book. I'lls till pick up Invincible though.

TEEN TITANS #24 Written by Geoff Johns Art by Matthew Clark & Mark Farmer Cover by Mike McKone & Marlo Alquiza "The Insiders," a 4-part crossover between the TEEN TITANS and OUTSIDERS, begins here, in an issue featuring guest art by Matthew Clark & Mark Farmer! For months, Superboy has been taunted by the secrets of his DNA - that he's a clone created from Superman and Lex Luthor. But who cloned him, and why? Meanwhile, the Titans and the Outsiders are rocked to the core as they face two of the most powerful villains in the DCU in an all-out war to destroy the young teams! Alliances will change and bonds will be broken as the teams face their greatest challenge to date.

OUTSIDERS #24 Written by Judd Winick Art by Carlos D'Anda Cover by Mike McKone & Marlo Alquiza Part 2 of the 4-part "The Insiders" crossover with TEEN TITANS! Secrets are revealed and Indigo's origin is explored as the Outsiders join the Titans for an all-out battle against two of DC's most powerful villains!

Ooh, spiffy. I usually get Outsiders in trade, but I'll obviously waive that for this occasion.

PREACHER: GONE TO TEXAS TP - NEW EDITION Written by Garth Ennis Art by Steve Dillon Cover by Glenn Fabry A new edition of the classic collection featuring the landmark PREACHER #1-7! Jesse Custer begins a violent and riotous journey across the country joined by his girlfriend Tulip and the hard-drinking Irish vampire Cassidy.

PREACHER: UNTIL THE END OF THE WORLD TP - NEW EDITION Written by Garth Ennis Art by Steve Dillon Cover by Glenn Fabry Continuing the new editions of the classic PREACHER trade paperbacks! This volume contains PREACHER #8-17, in which Custer heads to the south to confront the extremely dysfunctional family that abused him as a child.
PREACHER: PROUD AMERICANS TP - NEW EDITION Written by Garth Ennis Art by Steve Dillon Cover by Glenn Fabry The third amazing new edition in the PREACHER series, collecting issues #18-26. Learn the origin of Cassidy as Jesse Custer heads for France to rescue the Irish vampire from the clutches of religious fanatics.

Cool. I already own these; consider them recommended.

That's all this month.
