Foraging For Comics: The Marvel August Solicits

Have I really been doing this for for months already?

HOUSE OF M #5 & #6 (of 8) Written by BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS Penciled by OLIVIER COIPEL Cover by ESAD RIBIC The comic event of the decade continues. The Marvel Universe has indeed been rocked to its very core and more and more rebels join to rise up against what has happened. But can Spider-Man handle the truth about his life as it is and his life as it was? The fallout will shock you! Also, the rebels have gathered and are ready to fight! But who is behind the House? Guest-starring EVERYONE!!!

I like how Marvel is grouping all its House of M related titles into one set of the solicits for the duration; it provides an easy checklist for completists. DC should do something similar regarding the various Infinite Crisis stuff; as it is. readers only learn about a week in advance which titles will be important.

IRON MAN: HOUSE OF M #2 (of 3) Written by GREG PAK Pencils & Cover by PAT LEE HOUSE OF M Tie-In In a world run by mutants, brilliant Sapien Tony Stark stands out as one of the few success stories - but is Tony willing to betray his own species to defend that success? Meanwhile, the Sapiens have gained a mysterious freedom fighter in a robotic suit-so what happens when the House of M discovers who's inside it?

Pat Lee's Iron Gundam does look damn cool. I might pick up the trade if the story ends up being good.

FANTASTIC FOUR: HOUSE OF M #2 (of 3) Written by JOHN LAYMAN Pencils and Cover by SCOT EATON HOUSE OF M Tie-In Victor Von Doom has everything he could possibly want…love, power, and the position formerly occupied by his dead rival, Reed Richards. But would he be willing to throw all these things away just for a chance at the only thing he really wants-the throne of the House of M?

Hm, let me think... YES!

WHA... HUH? Written by BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS, STAN LEE, MARK MILLAR, J. MICHAEL STRACZYNSKI, GARTH ENNIS, BRIAN K. VAUGHAN, PETER DAVID and everyone else we could get our hands on! Art & Cover by JIM MAHFOOD Because clearly Bendis doesn't have enough books to write this month, the big baby bullied Marvel's upper management into green-lighting this ridiculous pile of silly nonsense! In the great tradition of NOT BRAND ECHH and the old humor issues of WHAT IF?, WHA...HUH? asks the questions that no one really cares about... What if the Identity Crisis happened in the Marvel Universe? What if Modok had an itch? What if we actually release this book? Bendis reteams with hilarious Clerks artist Jim Mahfood and all the best Marvel scribes-Mark Millar, JMS, Garth Ennis and a ton of others-to make the dumbest comic published this year. No one is safe! This comic WILL NOT feature seventeen variant covers of Wolverine.

Considering the story that got excised from that book (check the Beat archives), it'll be interesting to see what made it in. Is that Spider-Ham on the cover?

MEGA MORPHS #1 & #2 (of 4) Written by SEAN MCKEEVER Pencils & Cover by LOU KANG Some dangers are too big for even the Marvel Super Heroes--and that's when they activate Tony Stark's newest inventions: the Mega Morphs! Super-powerful high-tech transforming robots piloted by the unlikely team of New Avengers' Spider-Man, Captain America, and Wolverine--along with Ghost Rider and the Hulk?! Join Eisner-nominated writer Sean McKeever and superstar-on-the-rise Lou Kang for four issues of furious fighting, based on the hot new line of toys from Toy Biz. Marvel's heaviest heroes in giant-robot action? True Believer, this is the toy-tie-in comic other toy-tie-ins dream of being!

This is the series tying into that toy line. Dunno how they'll make it work as a story, but c'mon, those toys do look pretty sweet.

RUNAWAYS #7 Written by BRIAN K. VAUGHAN Penciled by TAKESHI MIYAZAWA Cover by CHRIS BACHALO Part 1 (of 2) A perfect jumping-on point for the series that Wizard said "could be the most original book to focus on teenaged super heroes since Spider-Man debuted all the way back in 1962!" Fan-favorite artist Takeshi Miyazawa returns to RUNAWAYS for a special two-part story that will change the team's lineup forever! When a dangerous alien invades Los Angeles, the Runaways' own Karolina Dean may be the only hero in the Marvel Universe who can stop him... but at what cost?

There, see? It's an ongoing. Now, let us have some more awesomeness.

CAPTAIN AMERICA #9 Written by ED BRUBAKER Pencils & Cover by STEVE EPTING THE WINTER SOLDIER Our second arc continues to cut a brutal swath through all that Captain America holds sacred. In the wake of disaster, Cap begins his hunt for the enemy that has dogged his steps, who has taken more from him than anyone ever has! Creators Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting continue the ground-breaking work that some are calling the best Cap run ever! Part 2 (of 6).

Wait, but up there I just saw...

CAPTAIN AMERICA #10 Written by ED BRUBAKER Pencils & Cover by LEE WEEKS HOUSE OF M tie-in What changes await Steve Rogers life now that the House of M is in control? In this new world order, watch the hero known as Captain America moves from the '40s to the present day, bearing witness to a changing landscape, watching as man becomes the minority, and mutant the ruler.

So, what the hell does this mean?

GIANT-SIZE X-MEN #4 Written by CHRIS CLAREMONT Penciled by PAUL SMITH New Cover by PAUL SMITH Featuring Classic Reprints by CHRIS CLAREMONT, LEN WEIN, DAVE COCKRUM & JOHN BOLTON Ode to an old soldier! In celebration of super-scribe Chris Claremont's 30th anniversary chronicling the adventures of Marvel's Merry Mutants comes this colossal collection of classic tales - plus a brand-new 8-page story by Claremont and fan-favorite X-artist Paul Smith! Featuring Thunderbird's death at the hands of Count Nefaria in X-MEN #94-95 (August/October 1975), a eulogy for the fallen hero in CLASSIC X-MEN #3 (November 1986) and his younger brother's attempt to exact revenge on the X-Men in UNCANNY X-MEN #193 (May 1985).

Okay, so certain people (you know who you are) who bitched about the creative team on Giant-Size #3 can now shut up.

EXILES #68 Written by TONY BEDARD Pencils & Cover by JIM CALAFIORE "DESTROY ALL MONSTERS" Fin Fang DOOM?!? Tragedy once again befalls the Exiles! While most of the team is on a world of giant monsters, a deadly threat stalks the crystal corridors of their trans-temporal headquarters. All this, and Red Ronin, too? Part 3 (of 3)

Any comic with Red Ronin in it is good enough for my money.

RUNAWAYS VOL. 1 HC Written by BRIAN K. VAUGHAN Penciled by ADRIAN ALPHONA & TAKESHI MIYAZAWA Cover by ADRIAN ALPHONA This deluxe hardcover collects all 18 issues of the Runaways' first series, plus a hefty helping of DVD-style extras! In PRIDE & JOY, six young friends discover their parents are all secretly super-powered villains! Finding strength in one another, the shocked teens run away from home and straight into the adventure of their lives - vowing to turn the tables on their evil legacy. In TEENAGE WASTELAND, the Runaways find a kindred spirit in a daring young stranger and welcome him into their fold. But will this dashing young man help the teenagers defeat their villainous parents...or tear them apart? Plus: Who do you send to catch a group of missing, runaway teenage super heroes? Marvel's original teen runaway crimefighters, Cloak and Dagger, making their first major appearance in years! In THE GOOD DIE YOUNG, the world as we know it is about to end, and the Runaways are the only hope to prevent it! Our fledgling teenage heroes have learned how their parents' criminal organization began, and now they must decide how it should END. As the Runaways' epic battle against their evil parents reaches its shocking conclusion, the team's mole stands revealed, and blood must be shed. Which kids will still be standing when the smoke finally clears?

Hot. Damn.

That's all this month. Full solicits are here: http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=5274

Git.
