Why Is The Michael George Case Deemed Comics News?

I don't really get why anyone's making a big deal over this. I mean, yes, someone died and that's bad, but that doesn't make it news. When a guy who owns a movie theater gets busted for murder, it doesn't make the front page of Variety (especially not when the bust takes place 17 years after the murder). Are comics journalists just really bored and/or lazy? Is it just another application of "if it bleeds, it leads?" Why am I asking you?
