Foraging For Comics: The September Marvel Solicits

"WOLVERINE #33 Written by DANIEL WAY Layouts by JAVIER SALTARES Finishes by MARK TEXEIRA Cover by JOE QUESADA CHASING GHOSTS Part 1 (of 3) HOUSE OF M tie-in! He's one of the most crucial players in the House of M world, and for a good reason: Wolverine carries burdens too great for even the most powerful mutants to bear. Has it caused him to finally snap? All the details you need to know about Wolverine's mysterious past and his place in the House of M can be found right here! A down-and-dirty shocker of a story by Daniel Way (WOLVERINE, BULLSEYE: GREATEST HITS) and the acclaimed GHOST RIDER: RESURRECTED team of Javier Saltares and Mark Texeira!"

Between this and the "James" bit in House of M 2, I'm guessing the fallout for Wolverine will be that he finally remembers his past as it was told in Origin.

EXILES #69 & #70 Written by Tony Bedard Pencils & Cover by Paul Pelletier WORLD TOUR: EARTH 616 Parts 1 & 2 (of 3)! The Exiles return to prime earth, only to find it not so prime anymore. So not only do the Exiles have House of M to deal with, they have to face the most powerful mutant on the planet! And welcome aboard new artist, PAUL PELLETIER!

If you don't pay attention to the Marvel hoopla, know that this starts an ambitious 14-issue story that will have the Exiles travelling to pretty much every forgotten alternate reality in Marvel history, including the New Universe, Heroes Reborn Earth, and the year 2099. No word yet on Melmac or Planet Terry.

ULTIMATE SECRET #3 (of 4) Written by Warren Ellis Penciled by Tom Raney Cover by Steve McNiven Ten miles above the Earth, an alien race is bent on stopping humanity from escaping the deadly clutches of Gah Lak Tus-the world devourer. But are they ready to face the combined forces of the Ultimates, the Ultimate Fantastic Four, and Captain Mahr Vehl?! Warren Ellis is joined by his former Stormwatch collaborator, Tom Raney, to conclude the second act of the Ultimate Galactus Trilogy.

I'm hoping Ellis doesn't make Galactus into a Lovecraft pastiche, given that he already used that bit in Authority. Oh, by the way, the reason Raney joins Ellis this issue is because Brian Bendis swiped Steve McNiven to extend his Sentry arc over in New Avengers. Marvel knows which side its bread is buttered on.

ULTIMATES 2 #8 Written by MARK MILLAR Pencils & Cover by Bryan Hitch "GRAND THEFT AMERICA" Tony and Natasha are on the eve of their wedding... but when Nick Fury makes his move against the mysterious traitor that's been plaguing the team, the team will never be the same! Also, Captain America and Wasp hit a serious snag in their relationship...is this the end for the Ultimate Universe's hottest couple? But believe us when we tell you that everything turns on its head with this issue! Is this the beginning of the end for the Ultimates? Part 2 (of 6)

Oh, the conservaties will love that title.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #82 Written by Brian Michael Bendis Pencils & Cover by Mark Bagley "GANG WAR" The Gangwar consuming New York gets worse with Wilson Fisk in retreat and an emboldened Hammerhead making the big play for his criminal turf. As for Spider-Man, his attention gets diverted from the street scene because the Black Cat is back-and this time she won't take "no" for an answer! Part 4 (of 7)

Wonder if Felicia bought those ears straight off Halle Berry?

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #524 Written by J. Michael Straczynski Penciled by Mike Deodato Cover by Tony Harris "ACTS OF AGGRESSION" What horrors do the hordes of Hydra hold in store for the sensational Spider-Man and his teammates? Will the web-head and the New Avengers stop the revitalized Hydra from bringing the United States to its knees…? And if so…at what cost? The pulse-pounding conclusion to the Hydra arc! Part 6 (of 6).

Dance, Spidey, dance!

MARVEL KNIGHTS 4 #22 Written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa Penciled by Valentine De Landro Cover by Tony Harris "THE YANCY STREET GOLEM" On Yancy Street, on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, someone--or something--is putting the hurt on the neighborhood's tough guys. Someone or something very large and very brutal, which is leaving a trail of twisted, broken bodies in its wake. Ben Urich, Jessica Jones, and the FF's ever-loving blue-eyed Thing are on the case, but what exactly is the nature of the threat they're facing?

Yancy Street = Delancey Street. And nobody rips up either while the Thing's around.

WOLVERINE #32 Written by MARK MILLAR Penciled by KAARE ANDREWS Cover by KAARE ANDREWS "PRISONER NUMBER ZERO" Mark Millar's epic 13-issue run draws to a close, but not before we bring him back for a spectacular encore, joined by Kaare Andrews (Eisner-Award nominated for his jaw-dropping INCREDIBLE HULK covers). This special 13th issue of Millar's WOLVERINE will be unlike anything you've seen from him before. A ghost story in the tradition of CREEPY and EERIE, this standalone issue is set in a World War II concentration camp and stars a feral character who looks like Wolverine, acts like Wolverine…but who is he really?

Word is the late Will Eisner helped Millar out with the plot on this one.

NEW AVENGERS #11 Written by Brian Michael Bendis Pencils & Cover by DAVID FINCH "RONIN" Part 1 (of 3) David Finch returns to debut the mysterious New Avenger everyone has been talking about all year!! Who is RONIN and why has Captain America recruited him into the fold? Bet it has something to do with Hydra helping the Silver Samurai get out of the country after he broke out of prison. Just sayin'! And what is Ronin's true identity? Here's a hint: He's not Daredevil!

Oh, what the hell. My guess is John Walker, aka the USAgent.

DRAX THE DESTROYER #1 (of 4) Written by Keith Giffen Pencils & Cover by Mitch Breitweiser The crash of an interstellar prison transport spells big trouble for an isolated Alaskan town when Paibok the Power Skrull, Lunatik, the Blood Brothers and Drax the Destroyer come calling. It's not a social call. Oh... And you think you know Drax? Big, green and not all that bright; is that the Drax you're thinking about? You don't know Drax! The re-imagining of DRAX THE DESTROYER begins here!

It's the attack of the obscure early '90's characters!

MARVEL TEAM-UP #12 Written by ROBERT KIRKMAN Pencied by PACO MEDINA Cover by SCOTT KOLINS TITANNUS WAR! At last, the long, sad history of TITANNUS is revealed! Learn everything there is to know about Marvel's newest source of villainy from his tortuous birth to the events that led him to seek refuge on Earth - all is revealed, nothing is held back. This issue sets the stage for future Marvel Team-Up arcs coming in the next year - this issue is a must-buy! Part 2 (of 3)

Sales for this book are in the toilet. I'll be surprised if there is a next year.

MARVEL MILESTONES: GHOST RIDER, BLACK WIDOW & ICEMAN Written by GARY FRIEDRICH, GERRY CONWAY, STAN LEE & ARNOLD DRAKE Penciled by MIKE PLOOG, GENE COLAN & WERNER ROTH Cover by MIKE PLOOG The world still needs...the Champions! Thrill to three titanic tales featuring the fantastic founders of the sensational seventies super-group! A legend is born as Ghost Rider, the most supernatural super hero of all, hits the highway in MARVEL SPOTLIGHT #5 (August 1972) - but is he alive or dead? Plus: The Black Widow first teams with Marvel's Man without Fear in DAREDEVIL #81 (November 1971), and Iceman hips his readers to the inside story of his sub-zero existence in a story from X-MEN #47 (August 1968).

Hmmm... could there be a Champions relaunch in the offing?

GRAVITY #4 (of 5) Written by Sean McKeever Pencils & Cover by Mike Norton After everything that's happened, Greg decides to stop being Gravity. But just when he thinks he's out of the super-hero business for good, he gets sucked back in. Boy, does he EVER get sucked back in!

Oh, come on. At least give it a couple years before you play the "[Insert Name Here] No More!" card.

MEGA MORPHS #3 (of 4) Written by Sean McKeever Pencils & Cover by Lou Kang "RED RAMPAGE" What do you get when you cross five of the world's greatest super heroes-all piloting state-of-the-art combat mecha-with a 200-foot tall robot designed to kill Godzilla? You get a fight scene. And when that fight is choreographed by Eisner Award nominee Sean McKeever and Lou Kang, you can bet it's going to be a clever fight scene. What is Dr. Doom's sinister plan with Red Ronin? And what are Spider-Man, Wolverine, Ghost Rider, Hulk, and Captain America going to do about it? Well, they're not gonna sit around and let it happen, that's for sure!

Red Ronin? Sweeeeeeeeeet. Also, nifty cover.

NIGHTCRAWLER #10 Written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa Pencils & Cover by Darick Robertson "THE WINDING WAY" All the pieces are in place and all the lies have fallen away. The stage has been set for Nightcrawler's final confrontation with the person who's ripped apart his past. It's a battle to the death, and its outcome could affect not just the world we know, but the dimensions beyond! Part 4 (of 4)!

Stolen from CBR's X-Board: "Nightcrawler's fighting Chuck Austen?"

CABLE/DEADPOOL #19 Written by Fabian Nicieza Pencils & Cover by Patrick Zircher "Why, When I Was Your Age…" Ever wonder what Cable and Deadpool were like when they were impressionable, kooky young teenagers? No? Well, you're going to find out anyway. It's a very special episode of "Blossom" -- no, wait -- a very special episode of CDP, a heartwarming romp filled with tragedy, despair and self-delusion -- and, when it's done, our bosom buddies won't look at each other the same way again. Could this be the beginning of...a beautiful friendship...? Naaaah! This stand-alone issue is an epilogue to "Enema of the State" and a prelude to "Bosom Buddies!"

Fabian, if you turn Cable and Deadpool into women, I will give you the biggest hug ever.

AVENGERS: THE SERPENT CROWN TPB Written by STEVE ENGLEHART Pencils & Cover by GEORGE PÉREZ It's twin threats to time and space as campaigns by Kang and the Crown coincide! The Avengers fight the Set-serving Squadron Supreme in a clash between Earths and head for the nineteenth century to keep the West from getting wilder! Continuity questions continue as Kang and Immortus mix it up! Plus: the menace of...President Nelson Rockefeller?! Collects AVENGERS #141-144 and #147-149.

Good to see more classic stuff getting reprinted.

That's all for this month. Full solicits are here: http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=5469
